Human Pack: Leading Your Dog To Listen To You

dog-training-commandsWhen a dog comes into your family, he will leave other members of his pack and becomes a part of your “pack”. If you have children in your household, he will treat them as the younger members of the pack. You will provide him with shelter, food and keep him safe from harm, make sure he is healthy, play with him and may be provide him a mate .

You should be the leader and decide what he does and when he does it. Your dog will receive affection from you and he will be loving and loyal to you in return. This will be a healthy and rewarding relationship with your dog.

When you take your dog into your home, you assume you are the leader and will be in charge of him. If you don’t, your dog will think he can do whatever he want and not obey you. Therefore, you must consistently train and discipline your dog, but never give your dog harsh physical punishment. If your dog growls at you and bite you, it is because he is a pack animal with pack instincts. But if leadership falls to him, you will have a dog problem.

If you dog take your place as top dog, he won’t be unhappy but he will have a lot of behavior problems which will makes you unhappy and in turn make life harder for him.

If you take command, he will instinctly follow your command and you will be able to train him as a member of your household. It is not uncomfortable for a dog to rank below a leader. Once he realizes that he is No.2, he will adapt his behavior accordingly and be happy in the spot.
