German Shepherds Reporting for Duty!

Many get intimidated when they see a German shepherd in the street or from the neighbor’s fence and even by the public park. It’s not a surprise that people automatically feel a tinge of fear when they see this kind of dog. Usually one can see German Shepherds as cop dogs or bomb sniffing dogs, which they get trained to do and excel at. But what if what you want is to just have this dog for your pet? The idea sounds crazy but you would be surprised on how great this dog would be for your very own pet.

What’s interesting about German shepherd is that they are widely noted for their careers as working dogs. This breed has been an instant choice for soldiers and police officers whenever there is a situation that needs to be sniffed out for bombs or narcotics and such. They have attained the recognition of being the top choice for military dogs. These dogs have a high and amazing level of sense of smell and can really smell beyond what the normal nose can. They are masters of cunning, alertness and loyalty. This smart dog needs a trainer and an owner who knows how to handle him well. These dogs are very smart and they learn to do things very fast and training them while they are young establishes good and stable behavior. Having a German shepherd for a pet is actually a superb idea because these dogs become very defensive especially to their trainers and families. These dogs love to be in the presence of their owners and the members of their family, but they can be very vigilant should they know that there are strangers around. They only want to protect their owners and this is a good thing since these dogs are even ready to defend their owners all the time. They are very nimble and they love to move around. One advantage of having a German shepherd is that they are very trainable. They follow orders and learn how to respond fast. This dog is usually longer than the other breeds and would have a coat that’s gray and brown with little accents spread out. Taking care of them is easy since their fur sheds mostly when it’s spring or fall. It is best to continuously brush them during this time. Since they like having active jobs, keep them active by exercising together or with the family. These dogs love the outdoors and it would be good for their health if you took them out for a run regularly.

One should not hold back when he or she considers getting a German shepherd for a pet. A Lot of families sleep peacefully each night knowing that they have someone dependable around them and guards them through both day and night. Though their chiseled features and fierce appearance may seem a little too scary for others, the German shepherd is truly someone you would want to invite into your home. Strong, confident and very trustworthy – that’s what German shepherds are all about.
