A few things that you need to know about what your dog is telling you directly or indirectly:
- When your dog lies on his back with his underside exposed, he is showing submission to you.
- Dogs have sweat glands all over their body and full cooling can only happen when there is air movement over the dog’s tongue. That is why water is so important to dog. If your dog did not answer a command and panting, he is telling you that he needs to rest for a while.
- A dog that sprawled flat on the floor does not necessarily mean that he is suffering from pain or exhaustion. It can be that he is relaxing.
- When a dog gives you his paw, he is asking something from you. This action is in the dog’s instinct. They learn it on the kneading of their mother’s teats to stimulate the flow of milk.
- Jumping on a wolf that comes home with a kill is normal. That is why when you come home from groceries, your dog may jump on you to show his excitement over your return if he smells groceries or new toy.
- In the wild, only the leader dog makes eye contact. Dogs learn that they can make eye contact with human. If your dog makes eye contact with you that combines with growling, he is telling you that he is feeling dominant.

In dog to dog and dog to human greetings, ranking plays a vital role. You should allow your dog to mix with other dogs so that your dog can learn about the dog greetings.
When dogs meets with each other for the first time, they will touch noses to see if they like each other. They will then proceed to sniff the areas around the anal. Dogs wag their tails if they like each other. Dogs display an enemy like behavior, for example bragging, showing off, showing teeth and growling if they do not like each other. These behavioral display will cause intimidation and anxiety to the opponent.
When this is over, the dog that had exaggerated the most is the winner. This often brought up the question whether who is stronger and so the dogs will resolute to fighting if there is any doubt.
Dogs fight start with the dogs facing each others with stiff tails, and growling. If the hair of the dogs are raised, a dog fight will happen. Growling and snarling are used to make the rival surrender. Usually the louder the noise, the less danger there is.
As soon as the dog realize that it is weaker, it gives a submissive gesture, the victor will back off. When you say good dog to your dog, you are praising your dog and it will send your dog away in ecstasy.
